"William Blaine Kimmel, 69, West Pittston, formerly of Somerset and Friedens, died Oct 16, 1999 at his residence. Born in Friedens, he is the son of the late William and Nevada (Mostoller) Kimmel. Also preceded in death by brothers: John, George, Wilmer and sisters: Velma Walker and Shirley Custer. Survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Ruth M. Jones, son, Jeffery Kimmel of Pittston, daughter Kelley Oberdick of Mechanicsburg, and grandson, Scott Haney of Mechanicsburg. Brother of: Victoria Smith of Cairnbrook; Blanche Ferraro, Adamsville; and Luella Speicher of Somerset. Mr. Kimmel was a veteran of WW II, Korea and Vietnam and retired from the Air Force in 1968. He attended North Carolina State University and taught high school in Cameron N.C. In 1984, he retired as FAA Radar unit chief at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport. He was a member of the N.E. Retired Air Force Wing in Wyoming where he served as membership chairman and was awarded volunteer of the year. Also a member of the Retirees Activities Office serving as a counselor. He was member of Retired Volunteer Service Program and was an accredited Appries Counselor of the Wilkes-Barre Office of the Aging. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. David Hamman officiating. Interment in the Mizpah Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans Association and Memorial Day parade committee."

He was a son of the late Jacob M. and Susan (Rayman) Knepper, and was married to Laura J. (Shober) Knepper, who died four months ago. Surviving are a son, Clarence, Listie, and a brother, Alvin K. Knepper, Brotherton. Two children are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Church of the Brethren by Rev. Galen R. Blough. "Mary Sue Kelly Shinnick, a RedwoodCity resident, has died. She was 74. Shinnick died Nov. 2. The native of Oshkosh, Wis., grew up in Chicago and went to Mudelein College-Loyola University. Shinnick moved to Redwood City in 1959 and worked for many years at the Ampex Credit Union. After her retirement, Shinnick was involved with the St. Francis Center. She traveled in her later years, to Ireland and Jerusalem. She also loved reading and theater. Shinnick is survived by her children, Margaret Shinnick of San Francisco, Edward Kelly of San Rafael, Susan Kendall of Pebble Beach, James Shinnick of Florence, Mass., and William Shinnick of Saratoga; and nine grandchildren. Her brothers, James and William, died previously. Mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Pius Catholic Church, 1100 Woodside Roadin Redwood City, with a reception following. Redwood Chapel in Redwood City handled arrangements."

"Victoria Mae Smith, 74, Cairnbrook, died Sept. 30 at the home of her daughter. Born Oct. 10, 1925 in Shanksville, the daughter of William and Nevada (Mostoller) Kimmel. Proceeded in death by parents; brothers, John, George, Wilmer and William (Bud); sisters, Velma Walker and Shirley Custer. Survived by loving husband of 53 years, Glenn V. Smith and these children: Alettia M., wife of Eric Vasquez, central City; Lizzie, wife of Robbie Robison, Friedens; Jody Marko, Central City and granddaughter, Denise, wife of Dan Kroon, Somerset who Vickie and Glen raised; grandchildren: Denise, Robbie, Becky, Allyson, Christin, Heather and Buffy; great grandchildren: Danielle, Emily, Devon, Harley, Alexis, Brandon and Johnnie. Also survived by sisters: Blanche Ferrara and Luella Speicher, both of Somerset and sister in law, Ruth Kimmel. Vickie worked long and hard to secure toll-free calling to Somerset, Johnstown, Windber and Berlin. She will be sadly missed by her family and countless friends. Friends were received Sunday at Mulcahy Funeral Home where Parastas will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Father Charles Kovich. Interment, Mizpah Cemetery, Friedens."

Survived by her husband of 27 years, Forrest J; a daughter, Kathy Lasko, Windber; stepchildren: Darlene, married to Robert Hitechew, Radcliff, Ky., and Allen, married to the former Jean Landis, Central City. Grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Michelle, and Rachel Lasko; Karen Piatt, David, Greg and Michael Custer. Sister of Luella Speicher, Somerset; Victoria Smith, Cairnbrook; Blanche Ferrara and John H. Kimmel, both of Adamsville, and William B. Kimmel, West Pittston. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Member of Indian Lake Christian Center. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Pastor Tim Burgan. Interment, Shade Church Cemetery."
